What kind of dress should I make my doll?
BTW I am a young collector not a little kid so I am good at both design and sewing. Just not real good at coming up with ideas.
The doll is lovely. She is vinyl, 18" tall and she has long black hair and dark tan skin. She has HUGE dark brown eyes.
The fabric that I want to use is a mixture of blues, greens, purples with bright pink blossoms on it.
It is a large print so I want to use a pretty wide amount on the doll so that the design in it shows.
It almost looks Hawaiian and the doll does too.
But I think a muumuu would look too much like a nightgown on her. So that is out. A caftan is a possibility with a solid color yoke and long bell sleeves. But again...nightgown.
I hate those girly dresses that are just bodice, collar and waist-sewn skirt.
Should I make her a halter top? That would not really be wide enough and too simple to sew. What do you think? What would you do for an American Girl (for instance)?
There is a style of Hawai'ian formal dress that looks like a tightly-fitted ball gown with a train. I've attached a link to a clip from a movie that shows women in this dress, starting at about 1:06 in the clip. I have a couple dolls with this type of dress and it looks both native and elegant.
